Documentary collection review
In a documentary collection the bank does not guarantee payment: it simply releases the documents to the buyer against payment or against acceptance, following your instructions. That is why an incomplete or inconsistent document can be enough for the buyer to delay payment, ask for a discount or reject the goods once they are already at destination. We review your collection before you send it so that the documents give no argument against you.
Collections are mainly used with trusted customers, precisely because they are simpler and cheaper than a letter of credit. But that trust does not prevent problems when a document does not match what was agreed or what destination customs require.
A well-drafted collection instruction is just as important: if it does not state clearly what the bank must do when the buyer does not pay or accept, the goods may be held in port, running up costs.
What we review
- The collection instruction: documents against payment (D/P) or against acceptance (D/A), deadlines, charges, protest, presenting bank and instructions in case of non-payment, under the Uniform Rules URC 522.
- Consistency between invoice, transport document, packing list and certificates.
- The bill of exchange, if included: amount, maturity, drawee and endorsements.
- The transport document: to whom the goods are consigned and who can collect them.
- The documents the destination country requires to clear the goods through customs.

Frequently asked questions
How is it different from a letter of credit?
In a collection there is no bank payment undertaking; the quality of the documents is your main protection.
What documents should I send?
The collection instruction and all the documents accompanying the collection, in PDF.
Do you review import collections?
Yes, we also review the documents you receive as an importer.
What happens if the buyer does not pay?
The bank acts according to your collection instruction. That is why we check that it states clearly what to do in case of non-payment: protest, storage, insurance of the goods or return of the documents.
In what language will I receive the report?
In English or Spanish, as you prefer.
Can you review several collections for the same customer?
Yes. Each collection is reviewed and invoiced separately, and knowing the previous transactions helps us spot recurring issues sooner.
When do I pay?
After the report is delivered, with an invoice payable within 7 days at most. The first review is free of charge.
